Roku Connected to Wi-Fi but Has No Internet

When Roku says it is connected to Wi-Fi but has no internet, it has reached the router but cannot complete Roku’s internet test. Check whether the router, Wi-Fi signal, or Roku alone is failing.

Run Roku’s connection test

Open Settings > Network > Check connection. After the test, review Settings > Network > About for the network name, signal strength, and connection result.

Then open a webpage on a phone connected to the same Wi-Fi:

• Phone and Roku both fail: troubleshoot the modem, router, or ISP.
• Phone works and Roku signal is poor: improve placement or Wi-Fi band.
• Phone works and Roku signal is good: restart Roku and reconnect its saved network.
• Roku streams some channels only: check the failing service, its error code, and Roku software.

Restart the network and Roku

Restart the modem/router using the provider’s normal instructions and wait until internet service is fully online.

Improve the Wi-Fi link

If both the router and Roku support it, test the other Wi-Fi band:

• 2.4 GHz generally travels farther
• 5 GHz can provide more capacity at shorter range

Select your own network, not a similarly named neighbor or guest network. Hotel, dorm, and other networks with a browser sign-in require Roku’s supported hotel/dorm connection flow.

Reconnect before resetting everything

Use Settings > Network > Set up connection > Wireless, select the correct network, and enter the password again.

If the saved network remains corrupted, current Roku devices provide Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Network connection reset. This removes network information and restarts the device; you will need the Wi-Fi password to reconnect.

Do not use Factory reset for an ISP outage or weak signal. It removes the Roku account setup and apps without repairing the router.
