Apple Subscription Canceled but Still Charged

Canceling an Apple subscription stops a future renewal; it does not automatically refund a renewal that already processed. Match the cancellation confirmation and charge date before disputing it.

Confirm the subscription status

On iPhone or iPad:

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Subscriptions.
4. Open the subscription.

Apple says that if there is no Cancel button or an expiration message appears in red, the subscription is already canceled. Record the expiration date and plan.

If the subscription still shows a renewal date rather than expiration, finish the cancellation flow and save the confirmation screen and email.

Identify the exact charge

Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com or open Apple purchase history. Match the amount, date, subscription, and Apple Account.

An apple.com/bill statement entry can include:

• app or service subscriptions
• apps, media, or in-app purchases
• grouped Apple purchases
• a Family Sharing member’s purchase

Search email for “receipt from Apple” and compare the Apple Account on the receipt. If another family member’s account appears, that person must manage the subscription.

Check who actually bills the service

If no Apple receipt or matching purchase history exists, inspect the bank statement’s merchant name. The subscription may be billed directly by the app company, Google Play, a wireless carrier, Roku, Amazon, or another provider.

Apple says subscriptions bought from another company must be canceled through that billing company. Deleting the app does not cancel its billing agreement.

Compare renewal and cancellation timing

A cancellation made after the renewal processed normally applies to the next term. Apple advises canceling a free or discounted trial at least 24 hours before it ends.

Use the receipt’s transaction date and time, not only the bank’s posting date. A bank can post a charge after Apple authorized it.

Request a refund separately

If the charge appears in Apple purchase history and you believe it should be refunded:

1. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com.
2. Choose I’d like to > Request a refund.
3. Select the reason and subscription.
4. Submit the request.

Eligibility is not guaranteed and depends on the purchase and applicable rules. Cancellation and refund are separate actions; complete both when needed.

If the charge is still pending, Apple may not allow a refund request until it posts and a receipt exists.

Secure an unfamiliar charge

If no family member recognizes the purchase, change the Apple Account password, review trusted devices, and contact Apple through official support. Also notify the card issuer, but ask how a charge dispute could affect the Apple Account and an active Apple refund review.
