Check the Google account selected in the Android Play Store before changing anything. Separate a missing country option from an accepted change that is still processing, and review family benefits before leaving a group.
First check which Google account the Android Play Store is using. A missing US country option, a pending change, and an unavailable app are different states. This guide covers an adult who has moved to the United States; it does not promise that a particular app becomes available.
Check eligibility before trying the country menu again
Google requires your presence in the new country and a payment method from that country. Its current minimum waiting period is 90 days after initially setting a Play country and between later changes; additional restrictions can apply. Family-group membership also blocks country changes.
In Play Store, open your profile, then Settings → General → Account and device preferences → Country and profiles. Select the United States if offered and follow the payment instructions. An accepted update may take up to 48 hours. Adding a card alone is not proof that Play switched countries.
Pause before leaving a Google family
Check Settings → Family → View family members. Leaving can remove access to Family Library content, the family payment method, and shared Google One storage or benefits. Your Google Account and your own purchased content remain, but shared access changes.
Read Google’s family guidance with the manager before deciding. Some paid-subscription situations restrict switching to another family for 12 months. A family manager or supervised member cannot simply leave. Deleting a family to reveal a country option can affect everyone; obtain the family’s agreement and resolve supervision needs first.
Refresh a stale Store without starting with account removal
If the eligibility checks pass but the screen remains stale, update Play Store through Settings → About → Update Play Store.
For a Store app problem, touch and hold its icon, select App info → Storage & cache → Clear cache, then reopen it. Labels can vary by Android device. Check the country menu again after each action.
Clearing storage/data goes further: it can remove Play Store settings such as parental controls and password protection, and requires accepting the terms again. Restore those protections if you use that step. Google warns that clearing Google Play services data can affect saved passwords and payment or transit cards. Stop before that escalation rather than repeatedly clearing everything.
Verify the result or ask Google to investigate
Reopen Country and profiles on the same account and confirm the selected country after the processing window. Separately check the app you wanted. A changed profile does not establish eligibility for every product.
If the country is already correct, or you are traveling and receive a residence-country error, use Contact us in Google’s country-change help. Give support the displayed country, move date, last change date, family status, elapsed processing time, and exact error. Keep passwords, payment-card numbers, and verification codes out of community posts.
Do not delete the old payments profile or use a false address to force a result. Check existing subscriptions and balance with Google before making further account changes.
