If you own or manage the Roku, open Settings → Guest Options → Sign out and clear info from the Guest Mode home screen, enter that Roku account's PIN, and confirm. A guest sign-out or checkout date clears the visitor's session; it does not establish that the owner has turned Guest Mode off. If you are a visitor, ask the host.
First decide whether you are ending a visitor’s session or turning Guest Mode off as the device owner. Signing a guest out clears their information and prepares the device for another visitor. Returning to a welcome or checkout screen is therefore not, by itself, evidence that the sign-out failed.
This guide uses Roku’s current US support information. If the TV belongs to a rental property, hotel, or someone else, ask its host or manager to handle the owner settings. The PIN should not be guessed or bypassed just to change how another person’s device is configured.
Match the goal to the person using the TV
| What you want | Appropriate next step |
|---|---|
| Leave a rental without your app logins remaining | Use the guest sign-out flow or ask the host to sign you out |
| Keep using the TV for a longer stay | Review the guest checkout date with the host |
| Restore your own regular Roku setup | Use the owner’s Guest Mode exit flow with the linked account’s PIN |
| Exit on a TV linked to an unfamiliar account | Stop and contact the owner, seller, or Roku support |
Roku’s guest instructions explain that sign-out removes the guest’s account information, viewing details, and added apps. Do not sign a visitor out in the middle of their stay simply to test a menu. Agree on the intended result before clearing that session.
Use the owner’s current exit path
For a Roku you own or are authorized to manage, Roku currently gives this device procedure:
- Complete the welcome flow if needed to reach the Guest Mode home screen.
- Scroll down and open Settings.
- Select Guest Options.
- Choose Sign out and clear info.
- Enter your Roku PIN, then select OK.
This is the owner-facing sequence in Roku’s Guest Mode setup guide. Its guest guide also uses the words “Sign out and clear info” for ending a visitor session. Read the screen context and whether it asks for the owner’s PIN; the phrase alone does not tell you which outcome was completed.
After confirming the owner flow, check that the device has returned to the regular owner setup instead of treating a new guest checkout prompt as success. If the result is different, record the exact screen rather than repeatedly clearing sessions.
Check which account owns the PIN
The Roku PIN belongs to a Roku account. It is not the television’s parental-control code or a streaming app’s profile PIN. Before changing anything, sign in directly at my.roku.com and check My streaming devices & TVs for the intended device.
If you forgot your own Roku PIN, the current PIN guide directs you to My Account → Profile & Settings → PIN/Parental controls, then Change PIN. Complete the account’s normal instructions and return to the device with the new PIN. Leave unrelated purchase and parental-control choices as intended for the household.
If the device is missing from that account, do not assume changing its PIN will fix this TV. Check which account originally linked the Roku. For a second-hand television or a device removed from the account, work with the previous owner or Roku support. Do not unlink additional devices, close the account, or pay a service promising to retrieve someone else’s PIN.
When you only need to sign a guest out
A guest can open Guest Mode Options → Sign out and clear info from the Guest Mode home screen and confirm. If the guest has already left, Roku documents a host’s remote sign-out option at my.roku.com/account → My streaming devices & TVs → the device → Sign Guest Out → Yes, sign guest out now.
That remote action is specifically a guest-session cleanup. Verify the right TV before using it, especially if an account manages several rooms. It does not prove that Guest Mode itself has been disabled for future stays.
For an extended stay, the guest guide provides Guest Options → Change automatic sign-out date and a calendar confirmation. Ask the host if necessary and verify the chosen checkout date. Changing that date is a different task from returning a personally owned TV to its regular setup.
If the PIN or screen still does not match
Keep the device model, software version, linked-account check, exact prompt, and result of the owner sequence for Roku support. If Home and the arrows do not work, resolve the navigation problem first. Working TV volume buttons do not prove that the remote can navigate Roku menus.
Do not factory-reset just because the welcome screen returned after a guest signed out. A reset can create a new setup task without resolving which account or workflow was involved. When the device is no longer listed in the expected account or asks for activation again, stop repeating the same step and explain that state to official support.
Roku warns that it never charges to remove Guest Mode. If you did not enable it, or a message sends you to an unfamiliar payment or support site, type my.roku.com yourself, secure your own account through its official password-change process, and contact Roku. Keep your password and PIN out of public screenshots or support-forum posts.
